Amalickiah

Amalickiah was a Nephite dissenter who desired power and authority over the Nephites. From about 73 BC until his death around 65 BC—when the Nephite general Teancum plunged a javelin into his heart as he slept —Amalickiah directed all his efforts at destroying the Church of God and the government of the people in order to rule over all.

When Moroni hoisted the title of liberty and thwarted Amalickiah’s designs to take over Zarahemla, Amalickiah fled to the Lamanites. By deceit he gained control of the Lamanite armies, the throne itself, and even the wife of the murdered Lamanite king. Thereafter he unleashed a massive assault against the Nephite strongholds, intending to “reign over all the land, yea, and all the people who were in the land, the Nephites as well as the Lamanites”.

Amalickiah’s plan was ultimately put down by Moroni and his forces.
