Com was a Jaredite king, son of Coriantum and grandson of Amnigaddah (Ether 1:13-14). His forebears, from Hearthom down through Coriantum, had lived their days in captivity (Ether 10:30-31). Com drew away half of the kingdom and reigned over that half for forty-two years, then went to battle against the king Amgid; after fighting for many years he gained power over Amgid and took the rest of the kingdom (Ether 10:32).
In Com’s days robbers arose who adopted the old plans and administered oaths after the manner of the ancients, seeking to destroy the kingdom (Ether 10:33). Com fought against them much but did not prevail (Ether 10:34).
Many prophets also came in his days, prophesying that the people would be destroyed unless they repented. The people rejected the prophets and sought to kill them, so they fled to Com for protection, and he was blessed for the rest of his days (Ether 11:1-3). He lived to a good old age and was succeeded by his son Shiblom (Ether 11:4).
