Moron was the land where the Jaredite king dwelt, near the land the Nephites called Desolation (Ether 7:5-6). The record places the throne of the kingdom there: when Corihor gathered an army and rebelled, he “came up unto the land of Moron where the king dwelt” and took the king captive (Ether 7:5). After defeating Shule in battle for the land of their first inheritance, the usurper Noah carried Shule captive into Moron (Ether 7:16-17).
Accounts of approach to Moron use the language of ascent. Armies “came up unto” it (Ether 7:5; 14:11), and movement in the region is described as coming over the surrounding terrain (Ether 7:4-5; 9:3, 9). The land changed hands repeatedly through revolt and war. The brother of Shared seized the throne of Coriantumr at Moron (Ether 14:6), and Coriantumr came up to Moron to give battle to Lib in the first year of Lib’s reign (Ether 14:11). The record names no city within the land, treating Moron as the land itself rather than a settlement (Ether 14:11; 7:17).
