Shule, a Jaredite king, was born to Kib in his old age while Kib was held captive by Corihor, Shule’s elder brother, who had rebelled and taken the kingdom (Ether 7:7-8). Shule grew strong and able in judgment, came to the hill Ephraim, smelted ore from it to make steel swords for his followers, then gave battle to Corihor at the city of Nehor, took the kingdom, and restored it to his father Kib (Ether 7:9). Kib then gave him the kingdom.
As king, Shule executed judgment in righteousness and spread his kingdom across the land as the people grew numerous (Ether 7:11). He fathered many sons and daughters (Ether 7:12). After Corihor repented, Shule gave him power in his kingdom (Ether 7:13).
Noah, a son of Corihor, rebelled against Shule and his own father, drew away his brother Cohor and others, defeated Shule in battle, took the land of their first inheritance, and made himself king over that part. In a second battle Noah captured Shule and carried him to Moron, intending to kill him; Shule’s sons crept into Noah’s house by night, killed him, broke open the prison, and restored their father to his throne (Ether 7:14-18). The country was then divided into two kingdoms, Shule’s and that of Cohor, Noah’s son. Cohor’s people gave battle to Shule, who defeated them and killed Cohor (Ether 7:21). Cohor’s son Nimrod gave up his father’s kingdom to Shule and gained Shule’s favor (Ether 7:22).
When prophets sent from the Lord warned that the people’s wickedness and idolatry would bring destruction unless they repented, and the people mocked them, Shule executed judgment against those who reviled the prophets and made a law granting the prophets freedom to go where they would, by which the people were brought to repentance (Ether 7:23-25). There were no more wars in the days of Shule, and he ruled in righteousness the rest of his days (Ether 7:27). His son Omer succeeded him as king (Ether 8:1).
