Hill Manti was the site where Nehor was put to death around 91 B.C. Nehor had introduced priestcraft among the Nephites and, when the teacher Gideon withstood him with the words of God, killed Gideon with the sword (Alma 1:7-9). Brought before Alma, he was condemned to die under the law given by Mosiah (Alma 1:10-14). The people carried him to the top of the hill Manti, where he acknowledged between the heavens and the earth that what he had taught was contrary to the word of God, and there he suffered an ignominious death (Alma 1:15).
