Ogath

Ogath was a location in the Promised Land, referred to in the record of the Jaredite civilization. It was situated near the hill Ramah and south of the waters of Ripliancum, which places it within the geographical context of the final battles of the Jaredites, as described in the Book of Ether. The armies of Shiz, retreating before those of Coriantumr, pitched their tents in this place which they called Ogath (Ether 15:10). The context suggests that Ogath served as a military encampment or gathering area and played a strategic role in what would become the last confrontations between these two colossal forces. It is during the prolonged period at Ogath that Shiz is presumed to have spent four years amassing “all the people” unto himself to prepare for the ultimate conflict with Coriantumr, which led to the near-total annihilation of their people (Ether 15:14). The reference to Ogath is singular in the scriptural record, marking it as a location of both preparation and prelude to the final tragic events in Jaredite history.
