Jaredite Prophets

Prophets came among the Jaredites in the days of Com, prophesying that the people would be destroyed unless they repented, turned to the Lord, and forsook their murders and wickedness (Ether 11:1). The people rejected them and sought to kill them, so the prophets fled to Com for protection and prophesied to him many things (Ether 11:2-3). Com lived to old age and begat Shiblom, who reigned in his place; Shiblom’s brother then rebelled and started a war across the land (Ether 11:4).

The brother of Shiblom ordered all the prophets who had foretold the people’s destruction to be put to death (Ether 11:5). The prophets had warned that a great curse and a destruction such as had never been on the earth would come unless the people repented, leaving their bones in heaps upon the land (Ether 11:6). The people did not heed the Lord, and wars, famines, and pestilences brought a great destruction in the days of Shiblom (Ether 11:7). Some among the people then began to repent of their iniquity, and insofar as they did, the Lord had mercy on them (Ether 11:8). Shiblom was afterward slain (Ether 11:9).
