Doubters of Prophetic Messages

Nephite Skeptics

The Nephite Skeptics were Nephites who, in the ninetieth year of the reign of the judges, rejected the prophecies of Nephi and Samuel the Lamanite even as the signs they had foretold were being fulfilled. As those predictions proved true, most of the people hardened against them and began to trust their own strength and wisdom, saying that the prophets had only guessed right among so many predictions and that the great works spoken of could not happen (Helaman 16:16).

They also denied that a Christ would come. Reasoning among themselves, they held it unreasonable that the Son of God should appear, and asked why, if he existed, he would not show himself to them in their land as well as to those at Jerusalem (Helaman 16:18).
