Medes

The Medes, inhabitants of the ancient country of Medea, are named once, in Isaiah’s prophecy against Babylon as quoted by Nephi (2 Nephi 23:1). The Lord declares that he will “stir up the Medes” against Babylon, a people “which shall not regard silver and gold, nor shall they delight in it” (2 Nephi 23:17). The chapter foretells Babylon’s overthrow, like that of Sodom and Gomorrah (2 Nephi 23:19). The Medes later joined with Persia to form the Medo-Persian empire of the ancient Near East.
