The land of Amulon was a region between the lands of Nephi and Zarahemla, named after Amulon, leader of the priests of King Noah3. After fleeing King Noah, these priests settled there and began to till the ground (Mosiah 23:31). The Lamanite army that had pursued the people of King Limhi, having lost their tracks after two days and wandered in the wilderness for many days, found the priests at the place they had named Amulon (Mosiah 22:16; 23:30–31, 35).
Amulon later gained favor with the king of the Lamanites, who appointed him and his brethren as teachers over the people in the lands of Shemlon, Shilom, and Amulon (Mosiah 24:1). The land remained a named Lamanite region: it is listed among the lands inhabited by Lamanites and Amulonites in the time of Aaron’s mission (Alma 24:1).
The earlier eight-day flight of Alma’s people in the same chapter brought them to a separate “land of pure water,” which they named Helam (Mosiah 23:3-4); the record does not give a comparable physical description of the land of Amulon itself.
