Jaredite battle area

Plains of Agosh (Mesoamerica geography model)

The Plains of Agosh are a location in the Book of Mormon noted as the site of a fierce battle during the final wars of the Jaredite civilization. In this region, Lib, a Jaredite military leader, pursued Coriantumr, the ruler of the Jaredites, and his people from the wilderness of Akish to Agosh. The plains became the stage for a battle where Coriantumr turned to face his pursuer. There, Coriantumr managed to kill Lib, shifting the leadership of Lib’s troops to his brother Shiz. Despite the death of Lib, the battle intensified under the command of Shiz, leading to a tactical retreat by Coriantumr from the plains (Ether 14:15-17). This event is part of the chronicled conflicts that eventually led to the destruction of the Jaredite nation. The Plains of Agosh are mentioned in a broader narrative that details the consequences of long-standing enmities and the eventual downfall of an ancient civilization.
