Hill Shim (FARMS geography model)

Hill in the land Northward

Hill Shim (FARMS geography model)

The hill Shim was a hill in the land Antum, in the land Northward, where the Nephite record keeper Ammaron deposited the sacred engravings of his people (Mormon 1:3). When Mormon was about ten years old, Ammaron told him that at about twenty-four years old he should go to the hill Shim, take the plates of Nephi for himself, and leave the remainder of the records where they were; Mormon remembered the charge (Mormon 1:3-5).

As the Lamanites were about to overthrow the land, Mormon went to the hill Shim and took up all the records Ammaron had hidden there (Mormon 4:23).

The hill also appears in the Jaredite record. When the Lord warned the ruler Omer in a dream to leave the land, Omer departed with his family, traveled many days, and passed by the hill of Shim and by the place where the Nephites were destroyed before reaching Ablom by the seashore (Ether 9:3).
