Jaredite Refuge and Battle Area

Wilderness of Akish (CES geography model)

The wilderness of Akish was a region near Moron, the Jaredite capital, that figures in the wars of the Jaredites’ final phase, recorded in the book of Ether. Two years after the death of Shared, his brother gave battle to Coriantumr, who beat him and pursued him to the wilderness of Akish (Ether 14:3). There the brother of Shared fought Coriantumr again; many thousands fell by the sword (Ether 14:4). Coriantumr laid siege to the wilderness, but the brother of Shared marched out by night, slew part of Coriantumr’s army while they were drunken, and went to Moron, where he placed himself on Coriantumr’s throne (Ether 14:5-6). Coriantumr remained in the wilderness with his army for two years, gaining strength (Ether 14:7).

The brother of Shared, named Gilead, likewise built up his army through secret combinations, and was murdered on his throne by his high priest, who was in turn murdered by Lib, a man of great stature who took the kingdom (Ether 14:8-10). In the first year of Lib, Coriantumr came up to Moron and gave battle; Lib wounded him in the arm, but Coriantumr’s army drove Lib to the seashore (Ether 14:11-12). Coriantumr pursued, and Lib gave battle on the seashore and defeated his army, so that they fled again to the wilderness of Akish (Ether 14:13-14).
