Shez was a Jaredite king, a descendant of Heth. Heth had perished in a famine along with all his household except Shez, who then began to rebuild the broken people (Ether 10:1).
Shez remembered the destruction of his fathers and built up a righteous kingdom, recalling how the Lord had brought Jared and his brother across the deep, and he walked in the ways of the Lord (Ether 10:2). His eldest son, also named Shez, rebelled against him, but the younger Shez was killed by a robber on account of his great riches, which restored peace to his father (Ether 10:3).
Shez built up many cities, and the people spread again across the land (Ether 10:4). He had sons and daughters (Ether 10:2), lived to a very old age, and was succeeded at his death by his son Riplakish (Ether 10:4).
