Heth¹

Heth led the Jaredites in the eighth generation after Jared, founder of the Jaredite nation. Heth embraced the secret combinations of old and slew his own father, Com, in order to take over the leadership of the nation. Thereafter the people plunged into wickedness, rejecting and killing the prophets at the command of Heth. As a result, the Lord sent a devastating famine into the land, accompanied by an infestation of poisonous serpents. Heth himself died of starvation. When the people began to repent and regain their spiritual stability, the Lord sent rain once again upon the land “and the people began to revive again, and there began to be fruit in the north countries, and in all the countries round about. And the Lord did show forth his power unto them in preserving them from famine”. Thereafter, Shez, the son of Heth, reigned in righteousness.
