Remaliah

Sire of King Pekah

Remaliah

Remaliah appears only as the father of Pekah, king of Israel, who is named throughout Isaiah’s prophecy as “the son of Remaliah” (2 Nephi 17:1, 4, 5, 9). His own acts are not recorded. In the days of Ahaz, king of Judah, Pekah joined Rezin, king of Syria, and marched against Jerusalem, but the two could not take the city (2 Nephi 17:1).

Isaiah told Ahaz not to fear Rezin and the son of Remaliah, naming Remaliah’s son as the head of Samaria, the capital of Ephraim (2 Nephi 17:9). The same alliance is referred to again when Isaiah condemns the people who “rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son” (2 Nephi 18:6).
