Kumenonhi

Kumenonhi was one of the twelve disciples whom Jesus Christ selected during His post-resurrection ministry among the Nephites, as recounted in the Book of Mormon. His name is mentioned specifically in 3 Nephi 19:4 in the context of a gathering where Jesus’s chosen disciples were present. This gathering followed a miraculous event the day before, wherein Christ taught and ministered to the multitude, instituting the sacrament and expounding the scriptures.

The role of a disciple in the Nephite society was of critical importance, as they were responsible for teaching the people, performing baptisms, and continuing the work that Jesus had commenced among them. These selected disciples received the Savior’s teaching and guidance to establish His church and spread His gospel. Kumenonhi’s exact contributions beyond his calling are not detailed extensively in the scriptural text, but his inclusion in the list of disciples signifies his distinction in faith and leadership in the early Nephite Christian church.

Like most of the other disciples chosen at that time, specific events in Kumenonhi’s ministry are not chronicled individually. However, the selected disciples as a group experienced Christ’s teachings firsthand, witnessed His miracles, and were endowed with power from on high (3 Nephi 28:1-3), which implies that Kumenonhi would have been a part of these collective experiences. Inclusion among the disciples is a testament to Kumenonhi’s faithfulness and his integral role in establishing and perpetuating the Christian faith among the Nephites.
