Akish’s first son, whose name is not given, was imprisoned by his own father and kept on little or no food until he died (Ether 9:7). Akish had become king by murder: he had his father-in-law, King Jared², killed on his throne and reigned in his stead (Ether 9:6). After taking the throne he grew jealous of this son and shut him up in prison (Ether 9:7).
The son’s brother Nimrah was angry at their father for what he had done. Nimrah gathered a small number of men, fled out of the land, and went to dwell with Omer, the king Akish had earlier overthrown (Ether 9:8-13).
