Waters of Shiloah (Near East geography model)

The waters of Shiloah are named once in the Book of Mormon, in Nephi’s quotation of Isaiah (2 Nephi 18:6, paralleling Isaiah 8:6). The verse describes them as waters “that go softly,” which the people of Judah refuse, rejoicing instead in Rezin and the son of Remaliah—a reference to Judah’s reliance on foreign political alliances (2 Nephi 18:6).

In the same passage the gentle waters of Shiloah are set against the waters of the river, “strong and many,” which Isaiah identifies as the king of Assyria and his armies overflowing the land (2 Nephi 18:7).
