Ablom (Mesoamerica geography model)

Refuge for Omer and his family

Ablom (Mesoamerica geography model)

Ablom is a location in the Book of Mormon, noted for its coastal setting, to which King Omer, a ruler of the Jaredites, resorted following a period of significant political and social upheaval. Omer, having been divinely warned through a dream, led his family away from potential harm wrought by the usurpation of his throne through the secret combinations of Akish. After an extended journey, which included passing by the notable hill of Shim and the area associated with the Nephite destruction, Omer and his accompanied family members established themselves at Ablom by the seashore (Ether 9:3). At this seaside refuge, they pitched their tents and settled, all except for Jared and his family. This brief mention in the text highlights Ablom primarily as a haven during times of strife and as a point of temporary respite in the narrative of the Jaredite civilization’s complex history.
