Mount Sinai is the mountain where, in the biblical account, the Lord delivered the commandments to Moses. It enters the Book of Mormon through Abinadi, who, preaching before King Noah, told the people they would be saved if they kept “the commandments which the Lord delivered unto Moses in the mount of Sinai” (Mosiah 12:33). After Abinadi spoke, his face shone “with exceeding luster, even as Moses’ did while in the mount of Sinai, while speaking with the Lord” (Mosiah 13:5).
The mountain is traditionally identified with Jebel Musa, a peak in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, though its precise location is debated. The name Sinai has been linked to a root meaning brightness or shining.
