Great Jaredite City

The Great Jaredite City was a city built during the reign of Lib, who took the Jaredite throne after Kish (Ether 10:18). It stood “by the narrow neck of land, by the place where the sea divides the land” (Ether 10:20).

In Lib’s days the poisonous serpents that had blocked the way were destroyed, and the people went into the land southward to hunt; they kept the land southward as a wilderness for game, while the land northward filled with inhabitants (Ether 10:19, 21). The people bought, sold, and trafficked with one another for gain (Ether 10:22). The record gives no description of the city’s size, buildings, or layout beyond calling it “great” (Ether 10:20).
