Nephi⁴, son of Nephi³ (one of the twelve disciples Jesus chose during his visit to the Promised Land), kept the record on the plates of Nephi after his father. He held the charge during the period of peace that followed Christ’s ministry, when there was no contention in the land and the people were “the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God” (4 Nephi 1:15–17).
He kept this last record until his death, after which his son Amos kept it in his stead, also on the plates of Nephi (4 Nephi 1:19).
