Morianton was a Jaredite king who ruled midway through the Jaredite lineage, a descendant of Riplakish and the father of Kim, who succeeded him (Ether 1:22). After many years he gathered an army of outcasts, made war on the people, and gained power over many cities; the fighting lasted many years until he established himself as king over all the land (Ether 10:9). Once in power he eased the burdens his predecessor Riplakish had imposed, won the people’s favor, and was anointed king (Ether 10:10). He dealt justly with the people but not with himself, and because of his many whoredoms he was cut off from the presence of the Lord (Ether 10:11).
Under Morianton the people became rich, with new cities, gold and silver, grain, flocks, and herds (Ether 10:12). He lived to a great age and then begat Kim, who reigned in his place for eight years and did not reign in righteousness, so he was not favored of the Lord (Ether 10:13).
