Jacob³

Jacob was the leader of the Lamanite occupation force in the city of Mulek during the Nephite/Lamanite confrontation around 64 BC. Moroni, the Nephite commander, attempted to entice Jacob out of his position within the city, but he refused to move. Then Moroni arranged for Teancum to march past the city with a small military force. The Lamanites could not resist following them, as Moroni had supposed. Teancum led them at full speed away from the city while Moroni and his forces retook the city. Meanwhile Lehi and his army emerged as soon as the Lamanites had pursued Teancum as far as Bountiful. As the forces of Jacob retreated, they found themselves surrounded by Nephites on all sides. A fierce battle ensued. “And it came to pass that Jacob, being their leader, being also a Zoramite, and having an unconquerable spirit, he led the Lamanites forth to battle with exceeding fury against Moroni”. In the clash, Moroni was wounded, but Jacob was killed. Those Lamanites who surrendered their weapons of war were spared; those who refused were disarmed and taken as prisoners.
