Gilgah

Gilgah was one of the four sons of Jared, named with Jacom, Mahah, and Orihah (Ether 6:14). The Jaredites had left the confusion of languages at the Tower of Babel and crossed to a promised land. Gilgah is recorded for one act: his refusal of the kingship over his people.

As the brother of Jared grew old, he and Jared numbered their people, and the people asked that one of their sons be anointed king (Ether 6:19-22). The brother of Jared judged the request grievous and warned that it would lead to captivity (Ether 6:23). The people first chose Pagag, the firstborn of the brother of Jared, who refused; his father would not constrain him and forbade compelling any man to be king. They then chose all of Pagag’s brothers, who also refused, and then the sons of Jared, who refused as well, save one. Orihah, a son of Jared, was anointed king (Ether 6:24-27).
