Preaching and Teaching are religious instruction given by authorized priests and teachers. Alma ordained “one priest to every fifty” “to preach unto them, and to teach them concerning the things pertaining to the kingdom of God” (Mosiah 18:18). He commanded priests to teach only what he had taught and what “had been spoken by the mouth of the holy prophets” (Mosiah 18:19).
Alma commanded that they preach “repentance and faith on the Lord” and that there be “no contention one with another” (Mosiah 18:20–21). None received authority “to preach or to teach” except from God through Alma, and “none were consecrated except they were just men” (Mosiah 23:17).
Each church had priests and teachers, and every priest preached the word as Alma delivered it (Mosiah 25:21). The sons of Mosiah asked King Mosiah to go to the land of Nephi to “preach the things which they had heard” and “impart the word of God” to the Lamanites (Mosiah 28:1).
