Graves are places the brother of Jared and Jared expected to go down to as they neared death. The brother of Jared “began to be old” and said that he “must soon go down to the grave” (Ether 6:19).
The brother of Jared asked Jared to gather and number their people before “we go down to our graves.” After the people were numbered, they stated what they wanted the two men to do before “they went down to their graves” (Ether 6:19; Ether 6:21).
