The sea south is the southern boundary of the lands the Nephites occupied, named once in a passage describing their expansion. As the people multiplied and went from the land southward to the land northward, they spread until they began to cover the face of the whole earth, “from the sea south to the sea north, from the sea west to the sea east” (Helaman 3:8). The four named seas mark the limits of the territory the Nephites and Lamanites inhabited; the sea south is the only one of the four that the record names nowhere else.
