Moronihah was a Nephite city destroyed at the time of Christ’s death, when the earth was carried up upon it so that a great mountain stood in its place (3 Nephi 8:10, 25). The survivors mourned that they and their families had been buried in the city because they had not repented and had killed, stoned, and cast out the prophets (3 Nephi 8:25). In the voice that spoke out of the darkness afterward, Christ said he had covered the city and its inhabitants with earth to hide their iniquities and abominations from before his face, so that the blood of the prophets and the saints would no longer come up to him against them (3 Nephi 9:5).
