Nephite retreat maintained by Mormon

City of Jordan (Malay geography model)

The City of Jordan, named after the notable River Jordan in the Old World, is a historical location in the Nephite lands where a significant event unfolded, around A.D. 375-380 (Mormon 5:3). Known specifically as the Nephite retreat, this city served a substantial role in the Nephite-Lamanite wars under the leadership of Mormon. When faced with an aggressive onslaught from the Lamanites, Mormon led the Nephite armies in retreat to the City of Jordan. They were successful in maintaining a defensive stance and managed to repel the initial Lamanite attack, thereby temporarily securing the city. However, the persistent warfare and the increasing pressures from the Lamanites eventually forced the overwhelmed Nephite armies to flee once more from the City of Jordan. Thus, despite the aggressive defense, the City of Jordan was not fully retained by the Nephites under Mormon’s leadership during this period of conflict.
