City of Jordan (FARMS geography model)

Nephite retreat maintained by Mormon

City of Jordan (FARMS geography model)

The city of Jordan was a Nephite stronghold to which Mormon’s armies fled during the final Nephite-Lamanite wars, around A.D. 375-380. It is named once, as the Lamanites attacked the retreating Nephites there but were driven back and did not take the city at that time (Mormon 5:3). When the Lamanites came against it a second time, the Nephites maintained the city; it stood among other Nephite strongholds that cut the Lamanites off from the lands beyond (Mormon 5:4). Lands the Nephites had passed by, whose inhabitants were not gathered in, were destroyed and their towns and cities burned, and so the 379th year passed away (Mormon 5:5). In the 380th year the Lamanites came again in such numbers that they overran the Nephites, who took flight (Mormon 5:6-7).
