Nephi’s Meeting With the Spirit of the Lord

1 Nephi 11:1
Nephi is spiritually taken to the top of a mountain.
1 Nephi 11:2–3
He meets the Spirit of God, who asks him what he wants—Nephi says he wants to see what his father saw.
1 Nephi 11:4–5
The Spirit asks Nephi if he believes his father’s words. Nephi does.

The Spirit praises God and commends Nephi for his faith.

The Angel Who Shows Jesus’ Future Advent

All of a sudden, Nephi sees the city of Jerusalem and a beautiful young woman; an angel appears to guide Nephi.

The angel asks Nephi about what he understands about the Messianic prophesies; Nephi confesses his lack of knowledge and understanding.

The angel explains that the young woman is the mother of the Son of God.

Gentile Colonization of the Promised Land

Nephi sees the waters separating the Gentiles from his brothers’ progeny, with whom God is angry.

Nephi sees a certain man, along with other Gentiles, who cross the waters and discover those of Nephi’s brothers’ descendants who are in the promised land.

Nephi sees the colonization of the promised land by Gentiles.

Nephi sees that the Gentiles are blessed with divine providence.

The Influence of the Bible on the Gentiles

1 Nephi 13:20–22
Nephi sees an unidentified book among the Gentiles.

The angel explains that the book he sees is the record of the Jews.
1 Nephi 13:24–27
The angel says that that book contained God’s word, but had been corrupted and altered by evil men.

The angel continues telling Nephi about corruptions in the book and how it caused trouble for many people.

Much of the Gospel Offered to the Gentiles

1 Nephi 13:30–32
The angel says that God does not want his people to be in a corrupt state.

God promises to bring forth much his kept-back gospel to the Gentiles

Jesus Christ explains that Nephi’s civilization will compile a record containing God’s word, which will be unearthed at a future time, thus restoring those things which were lost.

Nephi sees other holy books coming forth as well; the books validate, vindicate, and support one another.

The angel explains further how these records have vital role in confirming the first record.

The angel reminds Nephi of God’s previous covenants with Israel.

Nephi sees God’s church, few in numbers, in contrast with the monstrous influence of evil in the world.
