“As I Have Prayed Among You Even So Shall Ye Pray in My Church, Among My People”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The Savior personally exemplifies the application of the doctrine and practice of prayer. He commands the people to pray unto the Father. But He does more than this: He shows them how to pray. They heard Him pray; they saw Him in the posture of reverent prayer. What a great sermon action preaches! Jesus is the master teacher. He said, “follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do” (2 Nephi 31:12). He will give the same counsel shortly: “Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed” (3 Nephi 18:24).
