“A Gift from God”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

Though Ammon suggests that the unworthy could use these holy instruments to their own condemnation, it is doubtful that such men could obtain any information from them. It will be remembered that Saul in his disobedience was unable to obtain information via the Urim and Thummim (1 Samuel 28:6). There is no reason to suppose that these divine interpreters can operate independent of “the gift and power of God” (D&C 20:8; Preface to the Book of Mormon; Omni 1:20-21).
