“I Shall Stand to Be Judged of God”

Brant Gardner

The concluding sentence of verse 26 (Benjamin describes himself as nearing death) should be read with verse 28, where he returns to the purpose of his assembly—to fulfill his final obligation as Yahweh’s servant (v. 15) and transmit Yahweh’s commands to his people.

Scripture: Benjamin acknowledges that being the leader (or Yahweh’s servant) carries with it the responsibility to faithfully carry out Yahweh’s will for those over whom Benjamin has stewardship. All leaders have similar obligations. Like any servant, we will be judged (at least in part) on how we fulfill the responsibilities God has given us for others.
