Moroni’s Camp

Nephite Military Post

Moroni’s Camp

Moroni’s Camp was a temporary military encampment established by the Nephite military leader, Captain Moroni, in close proximity to the city of Nephihah. This camp was primarily a staging ground for Nephite forces during a focused period of conflict with the Lamanites. According to the accounts, Moroni, joined by Pahoran, gathered their forces at this location to strategize and prepare for the significant military engagements to come (Alma 62:18). Positioned on the plains near the city of Nephihah, Moroni’s Camp served not only as a tactical rendezvous point for the Nephite armies but also as a strategic base from which efforts to reclaim territory from the Lamanites were launched, including the defining Siege of Nephihah. The establishment of such a camp underscores the logistical considerations of warfare and the necessity of having secure locations for the assembling and dispatch of troops in the prelude to more entrenched military actions.
