Villages

Villages are settled places built by the people in the land. During a time of peace, the people began to scatter “on the north and on the south, on the east and on the west,” building “large cities and villages in all quarters of the land” (Mosiah 27:6).

The people of Nephi customarily called their lands, cities, and villages after “the name of him who first possessed them,” including “all their small villages” (Alma 8:7). Lands whose inhabitants were not gathered in were destroyed by the Lamanites, and their “towns, and villages, and cities were burned with fire” (Mormon 5:5).
