The city of Laman was a settlement burned by fire, with its inhabitants, at the time of the destruction that came at Christ’s crucifixion. The voice of the Lord names it as one of four cities so destroyed, with Josh, Gad, and Kishkumen, for casting out the prophets and stoning those sent to declare to them their wickedness and abominations (3 Nephi 9:10). The burning came during the storms, tempests, lightnings, and earthquakes recorded in the thirty-fourth year, which reshaped the land and killed many of its people (3 Nephi 8:5-7).
