Arrived in K[ansas]. C[ity]. at 6 A. M. Met Elder C[owley]. who had arranged the Emigrant business. At 7.30 took Wabash train and 9.40 arrived at Lex. Junction where we took Hack for Richmond Ray Co. Mo. Called D. P. Whitmer jr and by him was taken and introduced to his Father David Whitmer one of the three witnesses to the Book of Mormon
We had a long, instructive conversation with him and listened with attention to him bear anew his faithful testimony to the divinity of the work and truth of the Book of Mormon, he treated us very kindly and made a most favorable impression on our minds. During the day we called on Gen. A. W Doniphan, and had quite a talk with him, visited the cemetery, and the spot where the jail stood in which Joseph and Hyrum were confined. At 4. P. M. we went on down the road to Lex[ington]
Editorial note. Bracketed expansions ("K[ansas]. C[ity].", "C[owley].", "Lex[ington]") are Cook 1991's, supplying full forms for Morgan's diary abbreviations. The entry runs from the bottom of Cook's p. 89 onto p. 90; this transcription stitches the two pages.
