“I Am Brought Forth Triumphant”

Jana Reiss

Moroni, now dying, expects to be received into spirit paradise and there await the eventual resurrection at the last day. Interestingly, he didn’t have to wait as long as the rest of us will. The LDS Church teaches that a few choice spirits have already been resurrected and have become angels, who have perfect, glorified bodies of flesh and bone.

Moroni was one such individual, which gave him the means to visit Joseph Smith throughout the 1820s and carry God’s message about the location and significance of the Book of Mormon. In homage to Moroni’s role in ushering forth the restoration of the gospel, many LDS temples feature a statue of the Angel Moroni at the top of a spire. He is shown blowing a trumpet, which symbolizes his task in declaring the good news of Christ’s love and resurrection. The Angel Moroni of the 1820s is the resurrected person who was in life Moroni, the final editor of the Book of Mormon and the last survivor of the Nephite people.
