“Deny Yourselves of All Ungodliness”

Jana Reiss

Moroni emphasizes the concert of human effort (denying “ungodliness,” striving to love God wholly) and divine grace in the sanctification of the soul. Sanctification—the gradual process of becoming holy—is first made possible by God’s grace and Christ’s sacrifice, and then put into action by the receptive individual who opens himself or herself to the gift of grace.
