Literature: Even in a letter, Mormon uses beautiful imagery to create a contrast. Mormon contrasts the grief that “weigh[s] down unto death” with the benediction: “May Christ lift thee up.” The implications of the Messiah include salvation from death, so there is a rich connotative reversal of the phrase. The times are terrible, but hope in the Savior is wonderful.
