“The Pride of the Nephites, Hath Proven Their Destruction”

Brant Gardner

The discourse and instruction is over, and Mormon, in his conclusion, looks ahead to when he may write again. Because he has been speaking of repentance, he is painfully aware that the Nephites lack a repentant attitude. As a result, Mormon foresees their end. No doubt he has made this observation before to his son, since he alludes to it as a shared understanding, not as new information. It certainly does not get the space that he had devoted to the baptism of little children. Therefore, he is simply confirming something that he has previously discussed with Moroni.
