“Little Children Are Whole”

Jana Reiss

Mormon (as quoted by his son Moroni) explains one application of Christ’s teaching that he came not to save the righteous but to save the sinners. Since small children are innocent in Christ and do not sin, they do not need to be baptized, because one of the primary purposes of baptism is to wash away sin. Mormons don’t baptize children before the age of eight, which they believe is the age of accountability.
