“The Devil . . . Persuadeth No Man to Do Good, No, Not One; Search Diligently in the Light of Christ That Ye May Know Good from Evil”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

In these glorious passages—and in what is to follow in the concluding pages of the Book of Mormon—we see unfolded before our eyes transcendent truths about how to find our way through life “in the light of Christ” (Moroni 7:19); how to judge between good and evil; how to infuse our lives with faith, hope and charity; and how to come under the power and blessings of the Atonement by acting in faith on the invitation to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him. Our purpose for coming to this earth is summarized in beautiful simplicity and clarity in these pages—the final testimony of Moroni and his father Mormon concerning the truths of the gospel—for we are taught how to search for happiness in the illumination of heavenly truth. When we “search diligently in the light of Christ” (Moroni 7:19), we can become the children of Christ, always embracing the good and eschewing evil, always exercising faith in the redeeming power of the Savior.

The Lord has given us a precious gift to know good from evil. It is called the Spirit of Christ, or the Light of Christ. This blessing gives us the ability to judge right from wrong even as day can be distinguished from night. The way is clear: If it invites us to do good and persuades us to believe in Christ, then we know assuredly that it is of God. As we are worthy of, and trust in, the Spirit, we will judge righteously (see D&C 11:12).

Moreover, let us use the light of Christ to see the good in others. Let us always seek to judge righteously, knowing that as we judge so shall we be judged (see Matthew 7:2; Luke 6:37; 3 Nephi 14:2). If we use the light of Christ, we can judge righteously and make wise and noble decisions.
