The New Testament text reads, “Judge not, that ye be not judged” (Matthew 7:1), but Joseph Smith changed it to read, “Judge not unrighteously” (Matthew 7:1, footnote a, from JST, Matthew 7:1). In these verses Mormon instructed how to judge righteously. He warns not to misjudge or judge wrongfully or harshly. Whatever criteria we use to judge other people, we will be judged by those same criteria (see also commentary at 3 Nephi 14:1–5).
