“The Spirit of Christ Is Given to Every Man”

Jana Reiss

Mormons believe that the “spirit of Christ” or “light of Christ” is an inherent part of every human being’s divine nature. The light of Christ functions much in the same way as a conscience, helping people discern good from evil and know which path to take. In addition to this guidance, baptized members of the LDS Church also receive through the laying on of hands a special blessing called the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Basically, this works like a personal Liahona, or spiritual compass, helping individual Latter-day Saints stay in tune with God’s will and enjoy God’s guidance in making decisions both large and small.
