“Judge, That Ye May Know Good from Evil; the Spirit of Christ is Given to Every Man”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

We are all born with the Spirit of Christ that we might know good from evil and right from wrong. Those things that invite us to do good or persuade us to believe in Christ are of God. Let us seek to become pure in heart, striving to bless others with no thought for ourselves, that all might do good and come unto Christ. Our reward is joy now and the opportunity to be forever with the Father and the Son in the kingdom of heaven. President Gordon B. Hinckley emphasizes the opportunity to follow the Spirit of Christ in determining the exact demarcation between good and evil:

Some would have us believe that the area between good and evil is largely gray and that it is difficult to determine what is right and what is wrong. For any who so believe, I recommend this beautiful statement of Moroni found in the Book of Mormon: “For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for everything which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. (Moro. 7:16.)” (Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1997], 678).
