“Coriantumr Came to the Waters of Ripliancum”

Brant Gardner

Geography: The definition of Ripliancum—“large, or to exceed all”—suggests that this may have been the Pacific Ocean, thus suggesting that the earlier references to the “sea” were to the Gulf of Mexico. The next identifiable location is the hill Ramah, which is closer to the gulf. Since the record includes no information about how long these movements took, it is still possible that, during these last desperate maneuvers, the Jaredite armies crossed the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
